In Hindu funeral services, the Asthi Sanchaya ritual holds significant importance in the post-cremation process. This rite involves collecting the charred bones of the deceased on the 3rd, 5th, 7th, or 9th day after cremation. The performer of the rites walks around the cremation spot, sprinkling a mixture of milk and water with a Shami branch while reciting Vedic mantras. Each bone is carefully picked with closed eyes using specific fingers and placed into an earthen pot without making noise. Starting with the feet bones and ending with the head, these bones are either buried, kept at the root of a tree, or hung from a tree branch before being immersed in a sacred river or sea as part of Hindu funeral rites and rituals.
